At 32 weeks, your baby is well on their way to being ready for life outside the womb! At this stage, your baby likely weighs around 3.5 to 4 pounds and measures about 16.5 to 17 inches long. They’re looking more like a newborn, with chubby cheeks forming and skin smoothing out as they gain more fat beneath the surface. Their bones are fully developed, although still soft and flexible to help with delivery.

Inside, major systems like the digestive and nervous systems are continuing to mature. The lungs are still developing but are getting closer to being ready for those first precious breaths. Your baby is also practicing important skills—like swallowing, sucking, and even breathing motions—which are essential for life outside the womb.

You may notice more defined patterns of activity and rest. Some babies are very active at 32 weeks, kicking and stretching often, while others may have more subtle movements. By this time, your baby can respond to sounds, light, and even touch, and they might even turn their head toward a familiar voice—especially yours!

This is a wonderful time to connect with your baby and marvel at how far you both have come. Every week from here on out brings new milestones, and you’re on the home stretch of this incredible journey. As always, if you have questions about your baby’s development, don’t hesitate to reach out to your healthcare provider.
