Choosing Life and Finding Hope at Mary’s Refuge

For one mom at Mary’s Refuge, the journey to motherhood has been nothing short of transformative. When asked why she chose life for her boys, she shared honestly:

“I chose life for my boys because I believe that in a way God was telling me they are what I needed in my life. I was reckless and selfish and now I’m a mom. I’m not reckless or selfish and the boys come first.”

Motherhood, for her, is both a dream fulfilled and a powerful responsibility. “Being a mom means the world to me. I get to teach a new generation how to be amazing and I am someone my kids can look up to. I’ve always wanted to be a mom, and it’s been life changing.”

Life has shifted in profound ways since becoming a parent. She reflects, “My life has gotten better. I am able to turn it around and do better not just for myself but also my kids. I get to go back to school, and that’s one thing I’ve wanted to do but never took action.”

Much of this transformation, she says, is thanks to the support and stability of Mary’s Refuge. “Mary’s Refuge gave me a stable place but also a safe place I can call home for my boys and I. They’ve helped me get my GED and get into college, to work on bettering myself. They’ve also taught me different ways of being a better person and mom.”

Her story is one of courage, growth, and love—a reminder of the powerful impact that choosing life, embracing motherhood, and finding community can have on a family’s future.
