Choosing Courage and Love: A Mother’s Journey of Hope at Mary’s Refuge

Some stories begin in uncertainty, in the quiet moments when a woman finds herself at a crossroads she never expected. That’s how this young mother’s journey started—honestly, painfully, and ultimately, beautifully.

“When I found out I was pregnant, I didn’t know what to do,” she shared. At just seven weeks, she learned she was expecting twins, a discovery that brought both wonder and fear. Overwhelmed and unsure, she scheduled an abortion. “I am not proud to say this,” she admitted, “It was a very hard decision to make.” But when the day came, something in her heart held her back. I just couldn’t do it. I didn’t go to that appointment. I made the right decision.

That moment of courage became the beginning of a new chapter—one shaped by love, responsibility, and a growing sense of purpose.

To her, motherhood is more than a role; it’s a lifelong calling. “Being a mother is a 24/7 role,” she said. It’s demanding and sometimes exhausting, but deeply meaningful. Even in the smallest moments—laughs shared, routines built, tiny milestones celebrated—she finds a sense of fulfillment. Being a mom is one of the most important moments in a woman’s life. Being a mom is for a lifetime.”

Still, she admits the transition hasn’t been easy. “I still think I am not ready to be a mom,” she said honestly. Everything in her life changed overnight, and the picture she once imagined of motherhood looks very different in reality. But even in the challenges, she sees purpose. “I think being a mom has changed my life for good. My babies are now my number one priority, and I will never be alone again.”

Her path hasn’t been without heartbreak. When she shared her pregnancy news, her family responded with rejection. “They had no compassion towards me and they kicked me out of the house,” she recalled. That night, she slept in her car—scared, unsure, and completely on her own.

But compassion found her the next morning. Some kind-hearted women helped her secure a hotel room for a week, giving her a moment to breathe and start searching for maternity homes. That’s when she found Mary’s Refuge.

“When I contacted Mary’s Refuge, it was like an opportunity for me,” she said. “I saw hope again.”

Since arriving, she’s been able to rebuild. The stability and support gave her space to think clearly, regain her footing, and rediscover her strength. “It’s been such a blessing being in this place. I started seeing things clear again and I had my life back on track. I am grateful.”

Her journey is one of bravery—not because she had all the answers, but because she kept going when life asked more of her than she thought she could give. And in choosing life, choosing love, and choosing hope, she’s building a future filled with possibility—for herself and her babies.
