Martinsburg, WV — Mary’s Refuge is proud to announce the purchase of a new building at the end of 2025 that will significantly expand its ability to serve young mothers and their children in the Eastern Panhandle. This new location will be renovated as a multifunctional property to provide transitional housing, parenting and life-skills classes, a new Fatherhood program, an alumni moms program and an on-site daycare center—marking an exciting and impactful next step in the organization’s mission.

Since opening its doors in January 2023, Mary’s Refuge has provided a safe haven and supportive environment for pregnant women and young mothers seeking stability, hope, and a path forward. As the need for services has continued to grow, so has the vision for what Mary’s Refuge can offer beyond its initial residential program. The purchase of this new facility represents a meaningful response to that growing need.

The new building will allow Mary’s Refuge to create additional transitional housing apartments for mothers who are ready to move forward from the residential program but still benefit from supportive, affordable housing as they work toward independence. These apartments will provide a critical bridge—giving mothers time and space to save, grow, and prepare for long-term stability while also opening space at the main home for new mothers in need.

In addition to housing, the facility will include dedicated space for parenting classes, educational programming, and life-skills training. These classes are designed to equip mothers with the tools they need to thrive—emotionally, financially, and relationally—as they build strong foundations for themselves and their children.

One of the most anticipated features of the new location is an on-site daycare center. Childcare remains one of the greatest barriers for mothers pursuing education, employment, and personal growth. By offering safe, reliable childcare in-house, Mary’s Refuge will remove a major obstacle and create new opportunities for mothers to attend classes, go to work, and invest in their futures with peace of mind.

Renovations for the building are currently underway, and the organization is working closely with partners, donors, and volunteers to bring the vision to life. While there is still work ahead, the excitement surrounding this expansion is palpable.

“This new space represents hope, growth, and answered prayers,” said leadership at Mary’s Refuge. “It allows us to walk alongside mothers for a longer portion of their journey and support them in deeper, more practical ways. We are incredibly grateful for the community that has made this possible.”

Mary’s Refuge looks forward to sharing renovation updates in the coming months and welcoming the community into this new chapter. As always, the organization remains committed to its core mission: supporting life, uplifting mothers, and nurturing children through love, dignity, and practical support.
