DUTIES:
Provides leadership for the child care center while also serving as a lead teacher in the classroom. Responsible for daily operations, staff supervision, curriculum oversight, compliance, and maintaining a safe, structured learning environment for children.
Leadership & Operations:
- Oversee daily operations of the child care program.
- Set the tone for professionalism, accountability, and care within the facility.
- Manage curriculum and ensure instructional excellence.
- Serve as a lead teacher and maintain an active classroom presence.
- Model appropriate teaching practices and classroom management.
- Visit classrooms and observe teaching methods.
Teaching Responsibilities:
- Plan and implement developmentally appropriate lessons.
- Maintain a structured and nurturing classroom environment.
- Supervise children and ensure safety at all times.
- Address behavioral concerns using positive guidance techniques.
- Maintain classroom records and developmental observations.
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding progress and concerns.
Staff Management:
- Recruit, hire, train, and supervise teachers, aides, and volunteers.
- Monitor timesheets and manage schedules for child care staff.
- Support staff with classroom management and instruction.
- Assist staff in resolving conflicts between children.
- Evaluate teachers and aides annually and as required by licensing guidelines.
- Lead and attend staff meetings as needed.
Family Communication:
- Maintain strong relationships with parents.
- Assist staff in communicating with families.
- Meet with parents and staff to discuss student progress.
- Confer with parents regarding activities, policies, and enrollment procedures.
- Conduct tours for prospective families.
Program Oversight:
- Confer with teaching staff regarding behavioral or learning concerns and recommend strategies.
- Work with the Executive Director regarding purchases of instructional materials such as books, toys, and learning aids.
- Maintain student files and administrative records.
- Recruit and retain enrolled students.
- Conduct tours for prospective families.
Facilities & Compliance:
- Ensure facilities are maintained and cleaned according to state regulations.
- Ensure the building complies with local and state requirements.
- Participate in health inspections conducted by the Berkeley County Health Department.
- Communicate with the West Virginia Bureau for Children and Families, Division of Early Care and Education.
- Understand and follow West Virginia child care licensing guidelines.
Administration:
- Collaborate with the Executive Director on policies and procedures.
- Adhere to the program budget.
- Assist with the annual report.
- Meet with administrators, parents, and community organizations.
Records & Program Requirements:
- Maintain records required for West Virginia MountainHeart reimbursement.
- Maintain documentation for the Child and Adult Care Food Program.
- Ensure accurate record keeping for licensing and program compliance.
Professional Requirements:
- Maintain all certifications required through the West Virginia STARS system.
- Maintain CPR, First Aid, and other required certifications.
- Complete required continuing education hours.
- Attend required staff meetings and training.
QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience in early childhood education.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
- Knowledge of child development and classroom management.
- Ability to manage administrative responsibilities while teaching.
- Familiarity with West Virginia child care regulations.
